Swedish Massage
Use of oils or creams to relieve muscle tension and improve circulation. The most widely offered therapeutic massage technique.
Myotherapy
Using customized techniques of stretching the connective tissues surrounding the muscle as well as relaxing the muscle to release holding patterns to relax muscle spasms, improve circulation and alleviate pain.
Deep Tissue
Best for chronically tight areas. Use of slow deep compression working through several layers of muscle. Can be relaxing but not for the timid.
Neuromuscular Therapy
Consists of using different levels of pressure varied through out the massage using fingers, knuckles or elbows on the concentrated area of a muscle spasm.
Prenatal or Pregnancy Massage
Massage during pregnancy varies slightly from a regular massage.
First, the Mother-to-be (depending on how far along in the pregnancy) will be positioned on her side and finishing up on a slight incline during the massage, for the safety and comfort of both Mother and the baby.
Second, to help alleviate the swelling of the legs and feet, the massage pressure will be adjusted to accommodate to the increase of blood-volume in the lower extremities.
Muscle pain is caused by ischemic muscle
tissue, which means the muscle is not receiving
enough oxygen. The lack of blood flow to the
muscle causes the production of lactic acid build
up which is the cause of muscle soreness and pain.
All of the above therapies help increase blood
flow to the sore muscles thus help remove the
lactic acid. These therapies can cause soreness
that will disappear with in 24-48 hours and are
the most effective therapies to relieve cronic
and acute pain.
